Bitcoin Is Repeating This Midterm Pattern That Sends Price Tumbling 15% On Average

Crypto market analyst Merlijn the Trader has sounded the alarm about a recurring midterm pattern that has historically preceded major Bitcoin (BTC) price crashes. According to his analysis, this bearish signal has caused BTC’s value to drop by 15% on average. With the pattern now appearing in the current cycle, the analyst suggests that a major price correction could be on the horizon for Bitcoin. Analyst Calls For Late-Year Bitcoin Price Bottom In an X post on May 19, Merlijn the Trader warned investors and traders that a Bitcoin bear crash could be imminent. He pointed to a key chart pattern that has appeared in every midterm year, from as early as 2018 through the current market cycle. According to the analyst, the pattern follows a distinct cyclical structure, where Bitcoin experiences a significant price decline in Q1 before recovering and rallying in Q2. Once this relief rally ends, a sharp crash occurs, marking a late-year bottom for the flagship cryptocurrency. The first time this mid-term year pattern was observed was in 2018. At the time, Bitcoin’s price fell by a staggering 25% in January, before rallying by over 33% in Q2 around April. Once this brief recovery faded, the cryptocurrency plummeted again by 19% in May, before forming a final cycle low around December of that year. The same trend was repeated during the 2022 cycle. Here, Bitcoin’s price fell by 17% in Q1, then staged a more than 5% recovery in March, before recording a 16% decline in April and ultimately forming a cycle bottom in November. Fast-forward to the current market cycle, Merlijn the Trader believes that Bitcoin’s price action could be mirroring this historical mid-term pattern. He noted that BTC has already experienced a massive 23% price crash in Q1, followed by a relief rally of over 14% from March to April 2026. Now, the bullish momentum appears to be fading, with May bringing more volatility and a decline in BTC price . If history plays out as expected, Merlijn the Trader predicts that Bitcoin could form a midterm-year bottom between November and December this year. While he has not set a specific bearish target for his forecast, the analyst remains confident that a price crash could occur soon. BTC Forecasted To Crash As Low As $37,000 Other crypto analysts like Chiefy appear to maintain a similar bearish stance on Bitcoin . In a recent X post, the expert also pointed to past trends and chart structures, noting that BTC is repeating a key pattern that has consistently destroyed bullish sentiment across past market cycles. He described this bearish signal as “the Head & Shoulders breakdown,” noting that the pattern has already been confirmed on the BTC chart. Because of its recent re-emergence, Chiefy believes the market is now entering a retest phase and predicts a potential BTC price crash to $37,000. With Bitcoin currently trading above $77,000, a decline to this level would represent a more than 52% loss in value.

Polymarket Odds for Bitcoin Hitting $75K in May Surge 21 Points in One Hour

BitcoinWorld Polymarket Odds for Bitcoin Hitting $75K in May Surge 21 Points in One Hour The odds of Bitcoin reaching $75,000 in May have jumped sharply on the prediction market Polymarket, reflecting a sudden shift in trader sentiment. In a sub-market of the broader betting event, “What price will Bitcoin reach in May?,” the probability of the “Yes” option for the $75,000 threshold rose from 58.5% to 79.5% over the past hour. This represents a 21 percentage point increase in a single hour, a notable move for a prediction market that typically sees gradual price adjustments. Understanding the Polymarket Shift Polymarket, a decentralized prediction market platform, allows users to trade on the outcome of real-world events, including cryptocurrency price targets. The rapid shift in odds for Bitcoin reaching $75,000 by the end of May suggests a significant influx of capital or a change in sentiment among active traders on the platform. While the exact catalyst for this move is not immediately clear, such sharp movements often correlate with major news events, large trades, or shifts in broader market conditions. The $75,000 target is a key psychological and technical level for Bitcoin. Having recently traded near its all-time highs, the asset has seen increased volatility. The Polymarket data indicates that a substantial portion of market participants now view a move to $75,000 as more likely than not within the month. Context and Implications Prediction markets like Polymarket are increasingly used as real-time sentiment indicators, often reacting faster than traditional financial markets. The 21-point jump in one hour is significant and may signal that traders are pricing in a specific upcoming event or data point. Potential catalysts could include positive regulatory developments, institutional adoption news, or technical breakout patterns. However, it is important to note that prediction markets are not always accurate and can be influenced by large individual bets or coordinated trading strategies. The odds reflect the probability assigned by the market at a given moment, not a guaranteed outcome. What This Means for Traders and Investors For cryptocurrency traders and investors, the Polymarket data provides an additional data point for gauging short-term sentiment. A rapid increase in odds can sometimes precede a price move, but it can also represent a contrarian signal if the move is overextended. The key takeaway is the heightened level of conviction among a subset of market participants regarding Bitcoin’s near-term upside potential. The broader market context remains important. Bitcoin’s price action in the coming days, along with macroeconomic factors and regulatory news, will ultimately determine whether the Polymarket odds prove prescient or are adjusted back down. Conclusion The sudden surge in Polymarket odds for Bitcoin reaching $75,000 in May highlights the dynamic and sentiment-driven nature of cryptocurrency markets. While the move is notable, it should be interpreted as one signal among many. Traders and observers should monitor the underlying reasons for the shift and remain aware of the inherent volatility and uncertainty in prediction markets. The coming weeks will reveal whether this surge in confidence translates into actual price action. FAQs Q1: What is Polymarket? Polymarket is a decentralized prediction market platform where users can trade on the outcomes of future events, including cryptocurrency price targets, using cryptocurrency. The odds reflect the collective probability assigned by traders. Q2: Why did the odds for Bitcoin hitting $75K jump so quickly? The exact cause is not confirmed, but rapid odds shifts on prediction markets are often driven by large trades, breaking news, or a sudden change in broader market sentiment. It could also be a technical reaction to price movements in the underlying asset. Q3: Are Polymarket odds a reliable predictor of Bitcoin’s price? Prediction markets can be useful sentiment indicators, but they are not infallible. Odds can be influenced by large individual bets, market manipulation, or crowd psychology. They should be considered alongside other data points and not as a definitive forecast. YZi Labs takes Season 4 cohort to Bhutan as GMC stakes claim to crypto hub crown

YZi Labs (the venture company formerly known as Binance Labs) has officially opened the application process for the latest season of its EASY Residency cohort, with applications open to founders until June 21st, 2026. The latest edition (Season 4) will also be the first time the program brings a founder cohort physically to the Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC), the new, sovereign tech city that Bhutan is currently developing. YZi Labs goes into Bhutan’s tech city YZi Labs’ EASY Residency is not a new idea. The program has been active since Season 1 launched in mid 2025, when the firm used it to back early-stage founders under the same mission it has operated on for seven years: helping founders build what lasts. The program runs for ten weeks (five online and five in-person) and offers accepted founders up to $500,000 in funding with housing, meals, and workspace covered during the residency. Each cohort usually focuses on Web3 with a special focus on global payments, AI, and Biotech. The latest YZi Labs cohort will experience the program evolving from a “virtually-held” or conventional-location format into something more geopolitically deliberate: gathering a cohort of Web3, AI, and Biotech founders inside a city that is actively competing for exactly that kind of talent and capital. The shift comes as the incubator space becomes increasingly crowded. With YZi Labs competing against a growing list of crypto-native accelerators and traditional VC-backed programs that have all identified early-stage Web3 and AI infrastructure as their next target. What is Bhutan building in the GMC? Gelephu Mindfulness City is Bhutan’s most ambitious economic project so far, designed as a Special Administrative Region (SAR) to attract international investors, technology companies, financial institutions, and family offices. It will also operate with its own regulatory framework, which will separate it from Bhutan’s broader national framework in some key aspects. Notably, Bhutan is actively trying to create a more supportive atmosphere for international business by establishing clearer legal frameworks for cross-border trade. A key move happened on May 12, when Bhutan and Singapore signed a Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement , which was the third bilateral tax treaty negotiated by the Royal Government of Bhutan, with direct participation from the GMC’s authorities. The agreement will help prevent investors from being taxed twice on the same income, thus making Bhutan more attractive to international investors who might’ve avoided smaller markets in the first place. GMC Governor Dasho Lotay Tshering described the Singapore signing as more than just an economic arrangement, calling it “formal recognition by Singapore of GMC and its vision.” Interestingly, GMC has already received official interest from partners. Yesterday, May 21, a stablecoin payments company called RedotPay announced that it was establishing a local presence to operate under GMC’s regulatory framework, directly integrating its operations with the city’s compliance and stablecoin payment standards. As Cryptopolitan reported on May 14, BTSE Bhutan announced that it formally received an In-Principle Approval (IPA) from the Gelephu Financial Services Office (GFSO) in Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC) to obtain a Financial Services License (FSL).
